Capstone Highlight

Wholistic Health Assessment

One year ago I was asked to prepare a new capstone seminar to be taught on the CNHP cruise that took place this past January. I looked at what is already being taught and reflected on what I needed to teach and only then did the direction of the seminar become apparent. I observed the same old allopathic patterns being applied with a “wholistic twist” in many seminars throughout the country. “What herb do I take for this?” “What do I do for that?” These kinds of questions denote that “something is broken and we have to fix it.”

After 13 years of teaching seminars, my opinion is that the wholistic approach to health is not about the disease, it is about the person. We have been programmed to look at our clients and ask questions coming from a negative perspective. Perhaps this is the result of living in a society that uses negative advertising to sell products and ideas. It is time for a paradigm shift. “How can I truly help this person…help themselves?” I believe it starts with us. As health care practitioners, we have the rare opportunity to educate, guide and support others. We need to self-assess, work on self-help and expand our own awareness to move from the physical approach to the mental, emotional and higher levels of energy patterns to find harmony. Everything is not an herb issue and unfortunately this is where most people are stuck. Even though our knowledge and application of Energy Medicine has been rapidly expanding, students are still being taught the “take this for that” attitude.

In this capstone we will discuss this paradigm shift which broadens the scope of our consultations. We will evaluate goals, intentions, triangulation and root causes. We will address stress, which ultimately is the root cause of all root causes…“What is it?” and “How does it affect the body?” You will be shown an emotional release and stress reduction technique. This capstone will cover the “Laws of Nature” according to the ancient Chinese 5 Element (phase) Theory. Within each element we will develop a deeper understanding of the organ pairs in their excess or deficient states. We will further discuss the relationship between behavioral and emotional patterns and the associated organs. Many different assessment tools will also be reviewed including iris, tongue and fingernail analysis. Basic pulse reading and the use of micro meridians will also be discussed.

A lot of information will be offered; you don’t need to know it all. You will have the opportunity to experience many modalities and hopefully find one or several which will resonate with you so that you can continue your studies in these areas.
